Volunteering Helping at WPNSA

Volunteers are key to us running successful sailing events at WPNSA.  Our volunteers generously give their time to help with the race management of our events.  There are a variety of roles from helping on-shore in the race office, trollies, measurement, to roles afloat on the committee boat, safety cover and mark laying to name a few.

You do not need any previous experience in helping at sailing events or qualifications, just a smile and enthusiasm!  We are delighted to welcome new volunteers to the fold and happy to do training whether onshore or the water.

Quotes from Volunteers Helping at the Academy

"I helped out here during the London 2012 sailing events.  I enjoyed the volunteering and making new friends and the sounds and smell of the sea soon rekindled my lifelong love of boats and sailing. Being retired, I had the time available for more voluntary work and WPNSA were taking on volunteers so everything came together perfectly; it was all in the timing.  The academy encourages its volunteers and rightly sets high standards.  I'm in my third season now, have passed several qualifying courses and am a regular member of the on-water safety team, operating in ribs and helping to ensure safe sailing for everyone on race days."

Andrew

"Having been part of the Olympic/Paralympic race team, it is now pleasing to pass on skills to the next generation of eager volunteers."

Martyn

"Volunteering at the Academy is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. When my friend suggested we volunteer my immediate response was 'I'm not going on the water!' Well look at me now I'm part of this great team of people!! This is my third season at WPNSA and there really is something for everyone whether you are experienced or not, whether you want to help on the land or on the sea there is something for you! Don't think you'll be left to it and expected to know what to do there's training and encouragement and lots of people who want you to succeed and have fun. The volunteer team is as diverse as the sailors we support, whether they are young or old, just starting out or part of our experienced team everyone needs help sometime and that's where we come in. We are a group of volunteers with one aim; to make the sailing experience at WPNSA as safe and enjoyable for everyone as we possibly can. So come and check us out and see where you could fit in, who knows you might end up loving it as much as I do !!!!!"

The Academy is a multifaceted business. The driving force and focus are the sailing events, but to sustain the facilities and business the WPNSA has several other revenue streams
